To perfectly capture his look, a new head mould has been created. Ponda is an Aqualish thug, who dabbles in spice smuggling, presumingly in order to fund his budding career in architectural design. But it’s his vocally challenged drinking partner who is the most interesting. Not sure I’m a fan of the hair used but is pretty close the what is seen on screen. Evazan is obviously lacking his pig nose, but the resulting Minifigure still captures his inner beauty. Both make their Minifigure debut and both are great representations of their on screens counterparts. But for many Dr Evazan and his good chum, Ponda Baba are the most exciting addition to the set. His ugly mug is captured well in Minifigure form, with his two facial expressions seemingly portraying his increasingly annoyed demeanour. The only difference between them is the odd-looking instruments they play.Īs with a number of characters in the Cantina set, Wuher is intrinsically tied to the Cantina, and so, he’s appeared in past Cantina sets. These guys all look the same so as expected their Minifigures are all the same as well. This is played by a band of Bith musicians dubbed Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes. Unlike Greedo who has appeared in past versions of the Cantina and the Rodian bounty hunter appearance in this set is identical to the one included in the much smaller 2018 Cantina set.Īs much as Droid racism, dismemberment and shoot-outs invoke memories of the Cantina, a jazzy tune played by the in-house band is just as iconic. As the pair come face-to-face in the Cantina, over the years their encounter has controversially changed numerous times. Where ever Solo is, Greedo’s not far behind and these characters along with the Cantina, are the source of a long-debated moment of Star Wars history. There is certainly an improvement over the previous version of the Wookie, but he still looks a little odd, in my opinion. Again both of these characters have appeared in many other sets and both use the most recently updated version of the characters, with Han’s new hairpiece and the updated version of Chewie’s body mould. We first meet the dynamic duo of Han Solo and Chewbacca in the Cantina, as Obi-wan sources passage off of Tatooine. It’s hard to improve on the current versions of the Droids, but I do hope that one day, Artoo’s rear gets a little print detail. Threepio and Artoo may not be allowed inside the Cantina, but they are important enough to the scene. I would have liked Ben to also feature a hairpiece, as he doesn’t wear the hood inside the Cantina. Luke is kitted out in his farmboy attire and Obi-wan in his Jedi robes, complete with the new hood element introduced in the last few years. All four characters have appeared in numerous sets before and their appearance here offers nothing unique. So it’s to be expected they would be included in the set. Our first on-screen visit to Mos Eisley and it’s infamous Cantina is when Luke, Obi-wan and the two Droids arrive in their Landspeeder.
